What I present is a heartfelt appeal to raise awareness of the Ministry of Education and the Boards who are working on "reform" which, among other things, penalize the sciences ... in spite of all ministerial documents there are explicit references to the importance of "scientific knowledge" of culture and nature!

Subject: appeal for the preservation of biological and natural sciences in secondary school degree
Italian Zoological Union (UZI) non-profit organization is one of the oldest Italian scientific societies and among its primary purposes are to promote those studies in the various disciplines of zoology besides supporting and ensure adequate inclusion della zoologia e più in generale della biologia animale non soltanto nelle strutture di ricerca pubbliche e private ma anche nelle sedi dove a diversi livelli si insegnano le Scienze biologiche, naturali e ambientali.
Che in tutti gli indirizzi liceali e in quasi tutti quelli tecnici e professionali della nuova Scuola Secondaria Superiore non sono previste ore per il laboratorio Biology and are provided for the laboratories of Chemistry and Physics, with a consequent depletion of the wealth of scientific knowledge which will then be provided to students.
That the Commission for the revision of the classes of the Secondary School Competition does not appear to be attended by representatives of universities and natural biological area.
ASKS
That the Biological and Natural Sciences can be like the other scientific disciplines an adequate and balanced number of hours that allow students to acquire scientific knowledge sufficient to enable them to subscribe to the widest spectrum of courses Degree in the field of experimental sciences.
That MIUR integrating the various committees that deal with the reform of secondary school teachers with university representatives and Natural Sciences and / or representatives of scientific societies in the field which the Italian Zoological Union.
HOPES
that these requests will be granted and could thus contribute to the cultural background of the students of Higher Secondary School, which is the largest and at the same time the most complex possible.
Document approved unanimously by the Board of Directors meeting in Rome on 28.01.11 dell'UZI at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology, "Charles Darwin" University of Rome "La Sapienza", followed by General Meeting held in the same office on 29.01.11.
